From the Founder
I'm Alexander Najman (silent J, Russian/Polish, He/Him) – owner, founder, and Principal Consultant of Minerva Consultation, an educational consulting firm I founded in 2015 while pivoting out of my career as a professor of philosophy and physics and not really being sure of what to do. Wanting to do 'something more' I started helping my students apply to graduate school, get ready for tests, edit their applications, and was having not only an incredible time doing it, but was showing great results; I was consistently excited to meet with a new group of students after my normal hours lecturing to work through critical math and reasoning skills for applying to med school, MBA programs, PhD programs, and law school.
About a semester or two into trying to figure out where I was going professionally, I remember both reading and teaching Plato who, in The Theaetetus, describes a philosopher as a ‘midwife for the ideas of others,’ and reading it was completely epiphanic and transformative towards my pedagogy. I still wanted to teach but wanted to do so with people wholly invested in themselves, showing each how to do what they wanted, as best as they possibly could.
The work was amazing and I soon left the classroom (I still miss it sometimes), growing my business, originally called “Get Accepted” *sigh* into what it is today. I spent some early years tinkering in corporate strategy, writing white papers and designing operational models, but missed the authenticity I found in small group or one-on-one didactic relationships. I stopped taking corporate contracts and focused solely on helping the world's top talent turn their goals into a realistic and tangible professional and/or academic strategy.
My graduate work in both physics and philosophy, supplementing my professorship, provided me with a fairly distinct and highly critical, analytic modality through which to approach problems and derive solutions. That’s to say that, regardless of my clients, I’m fairly good at understanding people and their unique problems while strategizing how to quickly and iteratively flatten any speed bumps preventing professional and academic progress and success.
With a current resume focused on educational support and vocational counseling, a success rate of 100% since founding (more on the FAQs page), and an ever-growing network of colleagues and peers around the world, Minerva has become a premier admissions firm with clients around the world.
